Aliko Dangote’s proposed $16bn refinery in Lamu, Kenya, has encountered a fresh legal challenge after a Kenyan consumer rights organisation questioned the approval process and proposed government investment in the project.
The Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) Secretary-General, Stephen Mutoro, disclosed on Friday that the federation had petitioned Kenya’s Public Private Partnerships Petition Committee over the project.
The petition, filed under Section 75 of Kenya’s Public Private Partnerships Act, 2021, seeks details of the contracting authority, procurement process and government approvals granted for the refinery.
