NOSCEF Demands Tinubu Clarifies $3bn Nigeria-US Medical Aid Deal, Warns Against Compromising NAFDAC, Sovereignty

In a press statement signed by its Chairman, Elder Sunday Oibe, and made available to journalists on Sunday, the Forum said it was worried by reports that the agreement, which is to support Nigeria’s fight against malaria and other life-threatening diseases, requires Nigeria to provide a counterpart fund of about $2.1 billion.

NOSCEF said it was more concerned by allegations that the deal restricts the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) from independently reviewing or testing the vaccines and medicines to be supplied.

“If these reported provisions accurately reflect the agreement signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, they raise serious questions about public health protection, regulatory independence, ethical responsibility, transparency, and Nigeria’s national sovereignty,” the statement said.
